To pave way for comprehensive repairs, the Federal government Ministry of Works, through the Controller of Works, Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha, yesterday, announced partial closure of the Iyana Oworoshoki/Adeniji Adele-bound carriageway of the Third Mainland Bridge for eight weeks.

The section, which closure took effect from 12:00 p.m., yesterday, will however be reopened by 12:00 a.m. for eight consecutive weeks.

More reports

Report on the guardian states that the controller explained that the mainland axis will be closed to the public, and motorists won’t have access until 12:00 a.m.

She said: “Traffic will be diverted to Gbagada. They can use Gbagada towards Anthony and Ikorodu road, Western Avenue, Carter or Eko bridge to the Island and by 12 p.m., it will be blocked again; meaning those going to the Island will no longer be able to use this for the next six to eight weeks.

“We want to try as much as possible to finish within six weeks, after which we will move traffic and continue repairs on the other side. People coming from the Island won’t be able to go through Third Mainland Bridge because it would be blocked by 12:00 a.m. This will be a daily affair for the next four months.”

Kesha noted that the bridge, when completed, would serve for a minimum of five years, adding that the scope of work includes milling of the existing asphalt, installation of street lights, replacement of missing cartilage, and installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

She implored motorists to bear with the government and collaborate with traffic regulators.

“We know this work will cause some inconvenience, but they should please cooperate and listen to traffic managers. Once there is cooperation, it will be easier for us all and the time spent will be less,” she appealed.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, said the police would be available to control traffic and ensure there is no robbery or attack.

“We are going to secure the road effectively. Our men will ensure that the exercise is seamless. We only appeal to members of the public to cooperate with our men and bear with us at this period,” he added.

“This new approach by the Federal government is really important” Reporter added
