Lyrics for ten thousand tongues. Mark Weinberg (formerly of the band Crumb) and Thomas Becker (formerly of the Get Up Kids) founded Gratitude in 2003. The band, originally known as the Collision, added Robby Cronholm (previously of Crumb) on vocals and Bob Lindsey on bass. Following a 2002 tour with New End Original, which included Jonah Matranga and Jeremy Tappero, two former members of Far, Cronholm departed the group, and Matranga took his place. The band changed their name from the Collision to Gratitude after Matranga joined. Gratitude signed with Atlantic Records after acquiring Matranga and renaming themselves. Before entering the studio, the group hired Tappero as a second guitarist.

LYRICS FOR TEN THOUSAND TONGUES

Before the band’s self-titled debut album was released, drummer David Jarnstrom joined the group when Becker quit in the middle of the record’s recording (Becker and other session players filled the drum position during the album’s recording). Gratitude was released on March 8, 2005, by Atlantic Records. Both in the US and the UK, the singles “Drive Away” and “This Is the Part” were widely played on radio. In addition to supporting Jimmy Eat World, with whom the band has frequently been likened, Gratitude’s first tour for the album took place in North America. They also performed on the 2005 Warped Tour and a portion of the 2005 Taste of Chaos.
