1. Patrols the designated neighborhood throughout a daily shift either by foot or in a patrol car.
2. Respond to help requests; offer assistance to stranded or disabled drivers or residents in a variety of methods, such as pushing or changing tires.

3. Examines and investigates suspicious conditions by checking doors and windows and by examining the interior of both occupied and unoccupied buildings and homes; recognizes issues related to crime and disorder.
4. Pay attention to warning systems for indications of unauthorized entry. Examines reports of domestic conflicts and disruptions in public areas; if required, uses force to maintain or restore order.
5. Verifies cars with reports of stolen automobiles.

6. Functions as a public relations intermediary between the public and the Police Department; frequently interacts with residents in designated areas to obtain data and supporting documentation about issues and concerns.
7. Works together with individuals and other governmental and non-governmental organizations to find solutions to issues; creates maps of crime data and offers preventative methods for use by neighborhood watch groups and other organizations. 8. Attends relevant schools and training programs.
