How to check your car before a road trip

Check the fluids

Make sure your car’s fluid levels are correct before you drive. Verify the fluid levels in the power steering, cooling, brake, windshield washer, and transmission. Make sure these fluids are at their ideal level before your travel because they are essential to many of the car’s operations. Top them off if they’re low. To find these locations, see the owner’s manual for your vehicle. Additionally, make sure the engine oil is the proper level and replace it as needed.

Check the brakes 

Road accidents can occur when brake pads are worn out, which makes driving with them extremely dangerous. Prior to leaving on a journey, chech the condition of your brakes.

The car’s brake making screeching noises typically point to worn brake pads. Replace them after consulting a mechanic for cars. Experts in auto maintenance advise replacing the brake pads every 25,000 to 70,000 miles.

Check your engine air filter  

The engine air filter in your car keeps impurities, dust, and grime out of the engine. It may get soiled and blocked with and debris over time. For improved on road performance, make sure the engine air filter is clean and clear of debris.

Inspect the tires 

Prior to a road journey, car tires are crucial components that require your attention. Check the tire pressure before you go, and while you’re at it, check the pressure in the spare tire. Examine the tire tread after that. You have two options: either have it checked out by a mechanic, or use the penny approach at home. Put a penny in tread groove while lincoln’s head is pointing downward. When you can’t see any part of lincoln’s head, it’s time to get new tires.

Check your car battery 

it is generally recommended that you change the battery in your car every three years. It is advisable yo update it prior to your travel if you have already crossed or are going to cross the mark. Additionally, make sure the battery connections in your car are secure and free of corrosion. As soon as you see corrosion, clean it.

Don’t forget the lights and wipers  

A car lights and wipers are essential for maintaining visibility and fostering a safe driving environment. it is therefore advisable to get them examined to ensure they are in good condition. Verify the functionality of the brake, parking and headlight lights. Replace your wornout and cracked windshield wipers with a new set if you locate them
